What's up in 2016?
- In May 2016, Prof. Mara Wade of the Department of Germanic Languages and Literature will visit Prof. Elisabeth Wåghäll Nivre in the SU Department of Baltic Languages, Finnish, and German to expand on existing INSPIRE connections, partially initiated during Prof. Nivre's October 2012 visit to the Urbana campus. She will give two invited lectures on "The Emblem Book as album amicorum," (as part of the "Day of Literature" event at Stockholm’s University on May 25) and "Using Emblematica Online for Research in Early Modern Studies".
- On March 11, 2016, during the Institute of International Education's Best Practices Conference 2016 at the University of California, Davis, INSPIRE and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign will receive the 2016 Andrew Heiskell Award for Innovation in International Education in the category of International Partnerships.
- In June 2016, the Department of Speech and Hearing Science and the Divisons of Audiology and Speech and Language Pathology at Karolinska Institutet organized a one-day symposium in Urbana, including some 26 staff and students from Stockholm. The event featured research presentations by Illinois and KI faculty, a graduate student poster session, and panel sessions, and was followed by a second day of clinic open houses. It aimed to further strengthen the partnership between these institutions, as well as the existing student exchange program.
- In September 2016, Prof. Yoram Bresler of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering served as opponent at a PhD dissertation defense on Bayesian methods for sparse and low-rank matrix problems in the KTH School of Electrical Engineering.
