SAGA Sustainability Trainee Program
The SACC-USA network, the U.S. Embassy in Stockholm, and the Swedish Embassy in Washington DC offer the SAGA Trainee Program - three traineeships in Sweden during the fall of 2013. The traineeships will, under the auspices of the Swedish American Green Alliance (SAGA), be awarded to American students or young professionals with an interest in Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility.
The traineeships will take place between early September and the end of December, 2013. Air fare and accommodations will be covered by SAGA. The traineeships are unpaid.

PhD Course on Membrane Protein Biology
As part of the INSPIRE partnership between Illinois and Stockholm University, a PhD Course on Membrane Protein Biology and Biochemistry will be held at Stockholm University, Sweden, August 5-15, 2013. The course will include a combination of oral, tutorial, and practical sessions covering the latest findings across topics such as membrane protein function, structure, dynamics and engineering. Illinois speakers include Profs. Robert Gennis, Anthony Crofts, Yi Lu, Huimin Zhao, Christopher Rao, Claudio Grosman, Satish Nair, Emad Tajkhorshid, Klaus Schulten, and Mary Kraft.
Funding opportunities from Stockholm University
Stockholm University has released a second request for proposals to its faculty, focusing again on internationalizing the campus, and giving special considerations to applications involving activities with their prioritized institutional partners, including Illinois. The call includes funding for: research collaborations (10 awards at $4,700 each); short visits to partner universities for educational collaboration program development (10 awards at $3,100 each); doctoral research visits (20 awards at $4,700 each); and joint workshops (3 awards at $47,000 each).
The deadline for application for all forms of funding is April 15, 2013. Proposals must be submitted by Stockholm University faculty.
Environment and Society in a Changing Arctic
Environment and Society in a Changing Arctic is a new 6 credit course offered in collaboration with KTH Royal Institute of Technology. In 2012, 17 Illinois students and 13 KTH students, of a variety of disciplinary background, spent 5 weeks together in Stockholm taking an interdisciplinary course on issues related to climate change and the Arctic, followed by a 10 day excursion to conduct field research on Svalbard, north of the Arctic Circle.

INSPIRE funding
The Illinois Strategic International Partnerships (ISIP) initiative, and its pilot project INSPIRE—Illinois‐Sweden Program for Educational and Research Exchange—invite proposals from current faculty at the University of Illinois at Urbana‐Champaign for funding in support of collaborative research projects and/or cooperative educational programs that will strengthen our existing partnerships with KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm University, and/or Karolinska Institutet.
